PROJECT DESCRIPTION

America's Army development teams utilized the America's Army game engine in order to produce a cinematic recreation of the events of 4 April 2003 wherein SFC Paul R. Smith led 16 U.S. Army soldiers against an overwhelming force of over 100 Iraqi Republican guard soldiers outside of Baghdad International Airport. SFC Smith was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions during this battle where he is credited with saving the lives of his men while enduring constant small arms, RPG and mortar fire from multiple Iraqi positions.

Back to Projects

In order to ensure authenticity while developing this movie, the America's Army teams worked closely with Subject Matter Experts form the Pentagon as well as several of the actual soldiers who were present during the battle; Development focused on achieving the highest degree of authenticity in depicting this conflict while ensuring appropriate respect was paid to SFC Smith and his soldiers. Over 150 custom animations, 5 US Army soldier and Iraqi character models, dozens of texture skins, and terrain representations were developed in less than 6 weeks to include fully modeled and drivable vehicles (M113 APC, M2A2 Bradley IFV and an M9 Armored Combat Earthmover). The America's Army team is proud to express the heroism and commitment shown by SFC Paul R. Smith through this short film and our game engine.
